Expanded telehealth coverage for members in PPO and POS plans

Your employees’ health and safety is our top priority. That’s why we’re expanding access to telehealth services for members enrolled in PPO and point-of-service (POS) plans — effective immediately. Using telehealth for care decreases members’ risk of COVID-19 exposure.*

We’ll notify members of this change to their coverage by mid May.

What’s changing for PPO plans

Previously, your employees were covered for telehealth care only from participating providers. They can still get those services for the same cost share as an in-person visit. Now telehealth care from any licensed provider is covered at the same cost share as an in-person visit.

What’s changing for POS plans

Previously, your employees were covered for telehealth care only from Kaiser Permanente providers. Now telehealth care from any other licensed provider is also covered at the same cost share as an in-person visit:

  • Kaiser Permanente providers: There’s no cost for telehealth care from Kaiser Permanente providers. To schedule a phone or video visit, your employees can sign in to kp.org or the Kaiser Permanente app, or call one of the numbers listed below:
    • Northern California: 866-454-8855
    • Southern California: 833-KP4CARE (833-574-2273)
  • Participating providers: Telehealth visits with participating providers — which previously weren’t covered — are now available for the same cost share as an in-person visit. A directory of participating providers is available at multiplan.com/Kaiser.
  • Non-participating providers: Telehealth visits with providers outside our network — which previously weren’t covered — are now available for the same cost share as an in-person visit.

*Members should use telehealth services when appropriate and available.

The HMO tier of the point-of-service (POS) plan is underwritten by Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc. (KFHP). Kaiser Permanente Insurance Company (KPIC) underwrites the participating and non-participating provider tiers of the POS plan and the PPO plan. KPIC is a subsidiary of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc.

We’re expanding access to telehealth services for Kaiser Permanente members enrolled in PPO and point-of-service (POS) plans — effective immediately.
